R is for Raising Your Resilience

Resilience is defined by the American Psychological Association as the “outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences”. And resilience is a quality we should all strive to have in our personal and professional lives. Life can be very difficult to manage, whether its the stress of our families or our job, or an unprecedented event. But learning to be resilient can help us even when things are good. Resilience helps us to grow, adapt, and move forward in life.

Luckily, resilience isn’t just a trait you are born with. It is a skill that can be learned and improved upon when life tests us. Here are a few ways to help build your resilience:

Change Your Perspective

Looking at obstacles as growth moments rather than the end of the world is what separates resilient women from those who are not. Viewing a difficult time or event in your life as a lesson will help you to grow stronger and build confidence in yourself.

Practice Self Compassion

Give yourself grace when you make mistakes, or are struggling during a difficult time. Perfectionism hinders your ability to be resilient. Rather than handling every situation perfectly, being resilient means knowing that no matter what happens, you will always get back on your feet.

Lean on Your Support System

The strongest people in the world know they can’t do it alone. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your friends, family, coworkers, mentors, or anyone else in your life who may be able to help. We are not meant to go through life alone.

Building resilience is a difficult journey, but one that is well worth it in the end. Feeling confident and strong in yourself will always help you to feel like you can take anything that life throws at you.
