O is for the Organized Traveler
O is for the Organized Traveler

Planning for a vacation is often an exciting time. But it can also feel stressful and overwhelming
when you look at the sheer amount of things you must get in order before you get to relax.
Becoming an organized traveler can ease most pre-travel woes. And oftentimes, being prepared
means having a better time and saving money while you travel.
An organized traveler is a savvy traveler. Here are a few ways to get organized before you go:
Book in Advance
Try to start planning every part of your trip as soon as you decide on your travel plans. Of
course, booking travel is usually the first step, but you shouldn’t stop there. Lodging, travel plans
once you arrive, and activities are just as important to plan at least a few weeks to a few months
before your trip can help save you a lot of scrambling to find a reservation. Also, you’ll often get
a discounted rate if you plan well in advance.
Pack Smart
Packing is often the most stressful part of your travel plans! The best way to be an organized
traveler is to have a solid packing plan down. Plan ahead for activities and the weather as far in
advance as possible. And make sure you have some travel essentials dialed in. For example,
make sure you bring nice-looking, comfortable shoes for walking around, so you won’t be put
out by needing to buy a pair on the road. Or it could be as simple as bringing tasty snacks for
your layover so as not to be tempted by buying expensive airport food.
Use Technology to your advantage
Download offline maps, ride-share apps, and travel apps on your phone before you go so that you can be prepared. Use a spreadsheet to map out a budget for daily spending while on your trip. Keep a copy of your important documents, such as your passport and banking information, on your
phone to access the information from anywhere.
Being an organized traveler doesn’t have to be complicated. On the contrary, a little bit of
planning ahead can make you feel much more organized before and during a big trip. And even
if it is a short trip, being prepared ahead of time can save you money.
