B is for: Is your Body Language Authentic?

is your body language authentic?
Whether we are consciously aware of it or not, our bodies are constantly sending out messages. The way we stand, hold our arms or our facial expressions are in direct communication with others. Just like our verbal messages, our bodies are also sending out signals. Confusion arises when verbal communications do not match the body’s language. In some instances, it can cause mistrust. So it’s important that we manage our signals so that our messages are perceived as authentic.

Understanding our own body language is key in expressing ourselves in an authentic and wholehearted way. This is no easy task because many of our body’s signals are in direct reaction to our internal emotions and come from our unconscious mind. Behaviorist and scientist have been studying body language for years, and have many theories on how the body can help or hurt communication with others.

The simple truth is, if we wish to convey a message without any misunderstanding, we need to be sure our bodies are aligned with our words.  We can do this by striving to live a truly authentic life, meaning our actions and words are congruent with our beliefs. If you are relaying your truth, your body will have no choice but to do the same.

When we are one with our thoughts and actions, the body will align with that truth. And in return, others are sure to perceive you as genuine in your workplace, home life, and your personal experience.
